The results are in, and we are so grateful you joined us in our fight against fentanyl. We were extremely honored to be joined this year by more than 25 other affected families and participants who traveled from Minnesota, Mississippi, Wisconsin, and Texas. The 3rd annual Fighting Fentanyl 5K was another huge success thanks to all of our participants, donors, resources, sponsors and amazing volunteers! We are truly humbled by your continued support and generosity in helping us to raise just shy of $30,000 which will be used to further educate and spread awareness about the dangers of illegally manufactured fentanyl.

We are two weeks out from the 3rd annual Fighting Fentanyl 5K race day on June 15th at Mill Valley High School. We are busy getting ready for a fun and memorable day. Keepin’ Clean for Coop has provided education to nearly 31,000 people with 123 presentations over the past two years. There are two comments we almost always hear after our presentations…
“When will our kids get this information” and “I thought I knew what was happening with this fentanyl epidemic, but I can’t believe how much I didn’t know”
The number one mission of this event is to spread awareness and provide education, because if there is just one thing we have learned since we lost Cooper, it is…
Knowing about fentanyl and fake pills could be the difference between life and death.
That being said...
Registration is still open, so tell your friends and family so they don’t miss out.

A good number of extra shirts have been ordered for those who are still getting registered.
Here are a few things to keep in mind.
For an easier race day experience, please pick up your packet prior to race day
Friday, June 14 8:00 am - 10:00 am and 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at

We will send another email out the week prior to race day with further details on race schedules, parking etc.
Have a great week!

It is crunch time and we are getting so excited as things come together for race day!
If you haven’t already, now is the time to get yourself (and others) registered. Only registrations completed prior to May 24th will be guaranteed a race shirt. Don’t miss out because every shirt helps us spread awareness!

As we mentioned in our first email, funds raised last year helped us to launch a 4-month county-wide media campaign in partnership with the Johnson County Prevention and Recovery Coalition. The campaign is called “You Never Know” and more information can be found at
https://www.youneverknowjoco.org/
We are happy to announce that on May 7th Keepin’ Clean for Coop took that media campaign state-wide and it can be found on TikTok, Hulu, Instagram, and YouTube. Without your support and participation, we would not be able to do these BIG things!
Speaking of support….scroll down to see the list of amazing sponsors we have! Thank You sponsors!!

And oh boy runners, you are going to want to run fast because we have great prizes this year thanks to some very generous sponsors!
Overall male and female winners will receive a $150 gift card to The Foot Spot and a $250 gift card from CottageCare House Cleaning, medals, and of course a splash of Coop Gear!
Age group placers will receive CottageCare gift cards ranging from $25 - $100 (adult age groups only), medals, and a splash of Coop Gear!
We hope you enjoy some new additions and old traditions with this year’s 5K!
A Whataburger truck joins the lineup with Smoothie King and Golden Grounds Coffee Co. to offer delicious options available for purchase on 5k day!
We will have an educational scavenger hunt for the littles (and some bigs) after the Kids Fun Run which starts at 8:00.
We are excited to have back…emcee extraordinaire, Cameron Taylor from KSHB.

March 18, 2024
As we embark on our 3rd annual Fighting Fentanyl 5K, I believe it is important to reflect on the reasons we do this. First and foremost, we want Cooper’s legacy to be one that continues to save lives through raising awareness and providing education around the dangers of illegally made fentanyl and fake pills.
Secondly, our little event last year helped to raise funds that we are excited to announce were used to develop and launch a county (and state) wide media campaign in partnership with the Johnson County Prevention and Recovery Coalition. This 4-month media campaign is set to launch THIS week! This was a goal we have had since the inception of Keepin’ Clean for Coop and are so grateful that the funds from our 5K, and your continued support, are what helped make this goal a reality. Funds raised this year will be used to extend the media campaign and develop new material.
We are excited to have back…emcee extraordinaire, Cameron Taylor from KSHB.
We also welcome back…
-
DEA
-
First Call (providing life-saving naloxone)
-
Johnson County Mental Health Center
-
Shawnee Police Department
-
Shawnee Fire Department
….all providing amazing community support and resources!
This year we are happy to have Smoothie King and Golden Grounds Coffee Co. join us! Both will have yummy beverages available for purchase.
Last, and certainly not least, you can expect updated information and education on the current illicit fentanyl crisis we are facing. This event is more important now than ever before. Recent data from the CDC shows that Kansas leads the nation in fentanyl related deaths per capita for ages 15-19. The data also shows a 40% drug death growth for Kansas and a 28% growth for Missouri for this age group, while the US average dropped 3%. Our teenagers and young adults have become collateral damage to this epidemic and awareness is the number one defense.
This is information every family needs to stay safe, so please invite other families you know and love to join you for this fun and important event!
Be sure to grab a complimentary special bib to let everyone know who YOU are fighting for! And, of course, we will have a special tribute for our loved ones who have been lost to fentanyl poisoning prior to the start of the race.
Registration is open and the best prices are only available until the end of April, so don’t delay and get registered today!
(May 24th is deadline to make sure you get a race shirt in the size you need)
We look forward to a powerful day of exercise and education,
The Fighting Fentanyl 5K Race Committee
